Techint-SACDE Consortium Secures Contract for Northern Argentina Gas Pipeline Reversal 2/5/2024

(P&GJ) — The joint venture Unión Transitoria de Empresas (UTE) has secured the contract to construct a pivotal gas pipeline aimed at supplying the provinces in northern Argentina with gas from Vaca Muerta. This initiative is poised to replace gas imports from Bolivia, where production is experiencing a significant decline.

Techint Engineering & Construction and SACDE, working collaboratively within the Unión Transitoria de Empresas (UTE), will undertake the project, which involves the construction of a 100-km (62-mile), 36-inch gas pipeline stretching from the city of La Carlota to Tío Pujio in the Argentine province of Córdoba. The project is divided into two 50-km (31-mile) sections, with the primary objective of lowering electricity generation and natural gas costs for industries in northern Argentina.

To meet stringent deadlines, the construction will occur simultaneously on different fronts, aiming for completion by mid-August 2024. The gas pipeline, featuring over 30 special crossings, must adhere to safety, regulatory, and operational conditions to commence the gas filling and transportation process, as explained by Jose Ibarra, the Project Manager.

Juan Carlos País, Project QHSE Sr. Manager, notes the ambitious timeline, emphasizing the need for substantial mobilization efforts to address the planned tasks efficiently. Drawing on past achievements, such as the record 10-month execution time for the GPNK (President Nestor Kirchner Gas Pipeline), the team is prepared for the challenge, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The entire project will unfold within the province of Córdoba, presenting an opportunity for meaningful participation in a strategic national project. The team commits to prioritizing safety, health, environmental preservation, local cultural considerations, and fostering strong relationships with neighboring communities throughout the project’s execution, as affirmed by Project Manager Jose Ibarra.
